Aurora Horses And Humans Coaching
We talk about "freedom," "connection," "gentle methods"...
But sometimes, we watch a horse circling in a lunge pen, "at liberty," lunge whip in hand, and we wonder:
Is that still a choice?
Or is it just a better-packaged form of control?
A horse can appear calm. Too calm.
A horse can move forward... but with an empty gaze, internally disconnected.
It can respond... but not truly be present.
So we continue. Because we tell ourselves: "It's not saying no, so it's a yes."
But what if it was actually saying "no"... in its own way?
And we just didn't hear it?

It's also welcoming a suggestion.
Because a horse isn't an automaton that we ask questions and it answers "yes" or "no."
It's a sensitive, present being that can propose:
"Right now, I'd like to trot a little faster, it would feel good."
"I feel like I need to stay on the track for a bit longer. I still have some tension."
"What if we tried a little canter, there, together?"
"I'm slowing down, I need a breath."
And in those moments, it's up to us to respond.
Not always "yes." But not systematically "no" either. A true dialogue, in both directions.
I propose, it responds. It proposes, I respond.
And my response takes into account:
my objectives,
the environment,
its physical state,
and mine.
It's alive. It's intelligent.
It's what we call a partnership.
It's not always the tool that creates the constraint.
It's the use we make of it, the intention...
A treat can become blackmail.
A lunge whip in "liberty" work can induce constant pressure, even if it never touches the horse.
A too-tight lunge line can say: "You don't have the right to choose."
But there are spaces where the horse can truly try something.
Propose.
Explore.
And there, we discover its true personality.
Its joy.
Its ideas.
Its rhythm.
And the interaction becomes truly pleasant for all participants.

With us, no lunge whip in liberty work. No threatening gestures disguised as "suggestions."
On the lunge line, no strong actions, no guidance through constraint. The movement is fluid, not a power struggle.
And above all, we cultivate this quality of listening:
Listening not to control, but to hear.
Hearing not only an answer, but an intention, a desire, a message.
That's where the magic happens. When we stop "doing" to simply "be."
The movement becomes a shared response.
